WE WON BRONZE at the British Pie Awards 2022 (Smoked Cheddar, Potato, Leek and Charred Onion Pie) – Vegetarian Pie
So this year has been busy one AGAIN as how are we now more than halfway through the year already!
Anyway, back in March this year we entered some pies in to the British Pie Awards 2022 to try and get another award alongside our Smoked Beef and Smoked Stilton Pie that we won a Silver Award for at the 2020 British Pie Awards.
So we were extremely excited to win our second British Pie Award, this time for our smoked twist on a Vegetarian pie at this years British Pie Awards (http://www.britishpieawards.co.uk). Our entry was a Smoked Cheddar, Potato, Leek and Charred Onion Vegetarian Pie made with the cheddar that we smoke ourselves over apple wood. We were so chuffed to win a bronze award and we were only a couple of points off of getting silver for this pie in the Vegetarian Pie Category.
The pie was a combination of a lovely homemade flaky rough puff pastry case filled with our smoked cheddar cheese, slices of potato, softened leeks and some charred onions, finished off with a sprinkle of even more smoked cheddar cheese on the top, delish!
We also entered a smoked twist on a vegan pie which was only a few points off getting a bronze award so we will be making some tweaks to that and hopefully get an award for that at next years pie awards…fingers crossed. This vegan pie was made using a home made vegan short crust pastry encasing a smoked cauliflower cheeze made with the apple wood smoked vegan cheeze we smoke ourselves, we think you are going to love this pie when you get a chance to try it, you wouldn’t really know it was even vegan, its that good!
When can you get a chance to try these pies we hear you ask? Well, here is our plan, we will let you into a secret……we are in the middle of building works on some exciting new premises for our smokehouse and we will eventually be able to serve hot food out of the front of it with a PIE NIGHT firmly on the list of the first things we get round to doing there! This will then hopefully launch us into selling the pies more often at the smokehouse as well as maybe taking them out and about to buy at some market stalls too.
BUT….we feel we have made you wait long enough to try some of these award winning pies and sooooo we are planning to have a (very) LIMITED number of each flavour available to buy when we will be attending Melton Pie Fest 2022 held at The Stockyard – Melton Mowbray Cattle Market (which will also be our new permanent home for our smokehouse too).
Melton Pie Fest 2022 will be taking place on Saturday August 6th and Sunday August 7th 2022 and we will have LIMITED number of each pie (our Silver winner Smoked Beef and Smoked Stilton Pie, our Bronze winner Smoked cheddar, potato, leek and charred onion pie AND our Vegan Smoked Cauliflower cheeze pie) available to buy.
