We were chuffed to bits to find out that we have won another award this year, this time for our Apple wood smoked dairy free alternative to cheddar cheese (vegan cheeze).
We received a one-star accolade at this year’s Great Taste Awards https://greattasteawards.co.uk/results?_token=V5n8jfRj3VKZXK3pvppVepHo5gf38Ur6SCYUUkBz&sort_options_limit=50&sort_options_sort_direction=desc&sort_options_sort_by=rating&Keyword=apple+wood+&mg_rating_id=1&mg_category_id=&country_id=&county_id=&filter=Search, which is acknowledged as the world’s most trusted food and drink awards.
A one-star award is rated by judges as ‘a food that delivers fantastic flavour’ and it is only given to around a third of applicants.
The judges comments included: “The cheese itself is mild and enhanced by the subtle but distinct Applewood smoke” and also “A pale yellow hue, buttery in texture, a nice lightly smoked flavour with sweetness. A tasty alternative to cheese“.
We were so happy we received this accolade for this vegan cheeze that we smoke. It has been very popular already, mainly because it is a coconut based vegan cheeze (made by koko) which we smoke over apple wood chips to cover the normal coconut after taste you get with cheese alternatives like this. Being coconut based means it still melts too so it is great for cooking with, such as in toasties, on pizzas, in Mac and cheese or cauliflower cheese but its also a great texture and flavour to just eat a chunk of it just as it is.
If you haven’t tried it yet then you can order online at https://feastandthefurious.co.uk/product/dairy-free-alternative-to-cheddar-cheese-vegan-cheese/ or catch us at any of our market stalls at farmers markets etc just head over to our events page on Facebook to see where we will be next. We also now have a smoked vegan butter available to buy and we started smoking that after winning an award on our smoked butter last year, so make sure you check that out too and you never know, we might win an award on that one next year…. fingers crossed!
